Artist's Profile
Barbara Hackney, SWA
Throughout my art career I have run the gamut from total abstraction to realism using various media to
express diversified subject matter.  For the last few years I have primarily used water-based media.  I am still
intrigued by a wide variety of subjects, flowers, animals architecture and figures, including landscapes of my
native Texas.

I have participated in many group shows and won numerous awards for my paintings.  My work is included in
private collections around the country and in several permanent collections.  I am a signature member of
Society of Watercolor Artists.

For information on purchasing any of my paintings, please email me at

“The need for art is inherent in us all.  For the artist it is the need to communicate
through self expression.  For the viewer it is the need to experience, to participate
and to be touched.”

I was encouraged early in my life to express myself through painting.  That
encouragement began a life long love of art.  I received my formal training from North
Texas State University, Texas Christian University and Lamar University.  I have also
taken instruction from Bud Biggs, Judy Betts, Ted Nuttall, and other well known
instructors.  I continue to study at the Upstairs Gallery in Arlington with Maureen
Brouillette and Margie Whittington.
